France (1927-2009)
With great interfacing of new colors and materials, the terrible child of design, Pierre Paulin has precipitated French design into modernity. After studying at the École Camondo, Pierre Paulin joined Marcel Gascoin’s studio in 1953. That same year, he exhibited his first creations at the Salon des Arts Ménagers, which met with great success. In 1954, his works were published by Thonet France.
Paulin then joined the publisher Artifort of Maastricht in 1958 for which he developed a range of seats of bright colors with soft and rounded shapes, covered with Jersey. Among these iconic seats were Mushroom (1960), Tongue Chair (1967), and Ribbon Chair (1966).
