Finland (1914-1999)
Ilmari Tapiovaara is a great Scandinavian designer and interior designer of the 20th century. It is famous for the creation of furniture for schools, universities and the army. Mindful of the well-being of his fellow citizens, he devoted part of his life to designing the ideal chair. The Finnish designer is at the origin of large design icons: the chair «Domus» (1947), the seat «Mademoiselle» (1956), the chair «Fanett» (early 1950s), or the folding chair «T.S» (1978).
The work of Ilmari Tapiovaara has been awarded several times, he received six gold medals at the triennial in Milan between 1951 and 1964, the Good Design Award in Chicago in 1951.
